Karen Vecchioni lives in Summerville, South Carolina where she spends most of her time painting commissioned portraits of animals and people.
As a nature loving tomboy growing up in Wayne, Michigan, Karen was inspired by the beauty of her uncle's horse farm. Her uncle's farm and taxidermy studio became her first source of inspiration for recording animal anatomy in sketches and paintings. Her artistic skill developed further when she received formal training at the Center for Creative Studies and Wayne State University.

In the late 1990's, Karen's reputation as a portrait artist led her to found the Metamora Art Farm in the equine countryside of Metamora, Michigan. The Farm served as an artists' guild where Karen and other well-known artists offered workshops and personal classes.
Karen's favorite medium is oil on canvas in addition to pastel, graphite and color pencil. She specializes in a realistic style that evokes an emotional sensitivity. Her work has been commissioned and collected throughout the country.

Early in her career, she worked as an illustrator on
advertising campaigns for Odyssey International, where she
also specialized in published greeting cards.
Her transition into portrait art began 12 years ago when
she first painted her beloved Santini, a Shepherd/Husky
mix. Her talent for human and animal portraiture quickly
became recognized and her passion was established.
Karen's belief is that the role of the portrait artist is to
capture the true essence of the subject, and to record them
on paper or canvas so that they may be remembered . As
the great Leonardo da Vinci stated, "all that is beautiful,
even humanly beautiful, dies, save in art."
